Know your responsibilities

Being a landlord is more than just owning property — it’s a role that carries significant responsibility and legal accountability.

Whether you’re managing a single rental or a portfolio of properties, you are entering a profession that requires diligence, fairness, and a commitment to providing safe, healthy homes. Understanding your obligations is essential not only for compliance, but for building trust with your tenants and protecting your investment.

On our landlord pages you can find information and guidance on each stage of a managing a tenancy. You will also find advice that you can share with your tenants relating to issues such as damp, mould and condensation and how to heat a home effectively.

To stay compliant and to make sure you are fulfilling your requirements as a landlord it is important to stay up to date with changes in the sector. Attending training and events is a great way to do this. Joining a landlord association is another way to keep up to date and access advice and support.
