For example, your landlord has a duty to ensure your home is safe, healthy, and legally compliant. There are also a number of pieces of legislation that dictate the conditions of your home and how they should manage it.
Landlord responsibilities include:
- Conduct right to rent checks
- Protect tenancy deposits in approved schemes
- Provide appropriate documentation at the start of a tenancy
- Conduct annual gas safety checks
- Conduct electrical safety checks every five years
- Provide appropriate smoke detector
- Ensure any furniture provided meets safety standards
- Obtain a licence if the property is licensable
- Maintain appliances supplied by them
- Maintain the property and carry out repairs
- Ensure that the property is free from hazards
