Everything you need to know about hygrometers

A hygrometer is a device that measures both humidity (moisture) and temperature in your home. These measurements are essential for assessing and managing condensation, which can lead to the growth of black mould.

If you have damp, mould or condensation in your home, the information here can help.

Using your hygrometer

For the most reliable readings, you should place your hygrometer in general living areas like your lounge or bedroom. Where possible, you should avoid areas with frequent temperature and humidity changes, such as the kitchen or bathroom, because the temperature and humidity fluctuations will distort the readings.

You should aim to maintain humidity levels between 40-60% and temperatures between 18-24°C for the most comfortable living environment. These are the green zones on the hygrometer.

If your living areas sit outside these ranges for too long, you may find the space uncomfortable and cause prolonged condensation and damage to your home.
