Council letting schemes: How local councils can help you find tenants

Local Suffolk councils and housing authorities across the UK offer programs and services to connect property owners with potential tenants. These initiatives aim to address housing shortages and create more affordable housing opportunities within communities.

Here are some links to local schemes in East and West Suffolk.

West Suffolk Lettings Partnership

West Suffolk Lettings Partnership (WSLP) is dedicated to connecting local landlords and estate agents to facilitate housing for tenants seeking private rental accommodations in West Suffolk.

WSLP provides a variety of incentives within the private rental sector to support both landlords and tenants. These incentives include the guaranteed rent scheme, the management of larger deposits, regular property inspections, a £250 contribution towards end-of-tenancy clean for tenants with pets, and access to a dedicated landlord liaison officer to assist with tenancy matters.

East Suffolk Lettings

East Suffolk Lettings introduces the offer of a new Rent Guarantee Scheme to all participating private landlords with the intention of increasing ESC residents access to the private rented sector. The scheme encourages private landlords to work with the Council by charging a lower rent, typically at Local Housing Allowance rates or within 10%.

Private landlords are offered an upfront financial incentive whilst the Council will also guarantee that monthly rent is paid on time and will provide support to tenants to ensure the tenancy is managed appropriately throughout its lifetime.

Additional services would also include, but not limited to, assistance with rent in advance and a deposit ‘bond’, assessment of prospective tenants, accompanied viewings, detailed inventories, regular inspections all free of charge to the landlord.
